How to minimize the difficulties to improve the quality of people’s life in Ho Chi Minh City is a difficult problem posed to researchers and policymakers. HCMC Institute for Development Studies, as a research agency to advise the City, with the attempt to find the solution gradually improve and enhance the quality of life of people in the city, has organized the workshop: “HCMC people's quality of life in the context of the current economics”.

The workshop took place on the morning of 20/12/2012, has attracted the attention of large number of scientists from research institutes, academies and universities; media agencies and journalists young researchers.

At the conference, there were many comments about the need to develop criteria to assess the quality of life. Specifically, in point of view of Ph.D. Nguyen Huu Nguyen, it is not able to assess the general quality of life and is necessary to divide people into social groups according to various criteria with many differences such as: Occupation, income, culture, level of knowledge, ethnic, religious... We can only assess the quality of socio-economic factors and environmental factors which impact on quality of life in general.

The workshop was successful. It makes contributions of solutions to improve the quality of life, such as: continue to direct and support to promote business development; Continue research to improve theappropriate social welfare policies; solving problems of immigrants and social housing...
